The Derek French Trophy Stays
By MIKE LONDON

The mighty Old Miltonians water polo team retained the Derek French Memorial Trophy for the ninth successive year when tliey trounced Salisbury Otters 20-6 in the final at the Milton High School Pool ..... and proudest man in the side was Des Foster who, after receiving the Cup, was also appointed Rhodesia's new captain.

No doubt the National selectors were impressed with Foster's all round skill and general directorship while in the pool. He h:as an uncanny knack of summing up the position knowing when players are tired and should be rested and, most of all, enthusiastically shouts out movements when play is at full pace.

He became the third Foster since the war to captain Rhodesia. his uncle, Peter, and father, Richard, playing before him.

Stars of yesterday's play were, once again, Ian Armstrong, who netted six timesagainst the Otters, and goalkeeper Arthur Dempster, who brought off several absolutely unbelievable saves.

Both are included in the Rhodesian A team to travel to Johannesburg for the Kramer League in December. Other members of the A team are Paul Semple, Ross Horrocks Jannie Neser (OMs) Brian Stone, Preston Robertson, Ray Jordaan (Mashonaland), Gordon Currie (OMs) and Roland Cowan (Mashonaland).

The B team is: Vernon Addey (Mashonaland, capt.), Peter Cowan, Rod Hill, Alan Caldwell, Peter Shattock (Mash), Haries Johnson, Peter Horrocks, Kobus Kirschner, Stuart Pietfield, Rob Mutch and Barry Hodson (Mat.)

A Rhodesian Under-19 team will also take part in the Kramer League. The team is: Syd Falkefenburg, , Andy Robertson, Pig Atkinson Paddy Mellon and John Templeton (PE), Ian Preston (Alan Wilson), Paul Meredith (Milton), Alec van Rensburg (Gifford), John Page and Rob Guest (Falcon) and Chappy Abrams. (Jameson).

Old Miltonians proved they were the best club side in the country when they came through the two days' play undefeated - but they for saved their best performance for the final match against Otters.

Re-selected
Armstrong crowned his overall displays with some great polo yesterday and his six goals paved the way for re-selection to the Rhodesdian team. He last played four years ago.

Others to score for OMs were Neser (five), Semple (five) and Horrocks, Meredith, Van Rensburg and Johnson (one each).

Otters' goals were scored by Jordaan (three), Hill (two) and Cowan.
